Report from Georgi Opreanu,
Director of Elderly Care |
Count
your blessings..
Often in life we forget how blessed we are and we are
concentrating on our problems rather than blessings. We don’t see how
God blesses our lives and many times we wish to live the life of
somebody, because we consider their life is better or easier. Here at
the Smiles Elderly Centres we feel how great is our God and He blesses
our residents in a special way.
Early
July we celebrated
Anna’s Sarkadi
birthday, she was 74 years old. At the beginning of this month she
left this earth. Before she was cared for by Smiles she lived many
years on Oradea’s streets. We took her first in Cihei centre and when
we opened Salonta we moved her there. She had very serious heart
problems and a few years ago she suffered a stroke from which she
never fully recovered. She enjoyed her trips to the park every time we
had the opportunity to take her and she loved the songs we sung,
especially when Adi was playing the accordion.
In the centre, she found everything that she missed; good
food, treatment for her illness, a warm room and most of all, love. In
her last days she started to feel bad and her weak body didn’t respond
to the treatment any more. At the funeral, we were just a few, because
she didn’t have any relatives or family. It was a nice sunny day and
Adi played her favourite songs with accordion and many Smiles staff
that attended sung so beautifully. God was good with her and faithful
to her in her last days. We felt blessed to be a part of her life and
able to care for her needs. Everyone in Salonta will miss her and
because I was so use to seeing her in the living room watching through
the window…a few days ago when I entered in the room I felt something
was missing…and then I realised, Anna was missing.
At the beginning of the month,
Rebeca, our social
worker in Salonta organised a special Sunday morning event for the
elderly. Because of their medical conditions, just a few can go to
church and we consider it is very important along with all the care
they get to have spiritual support too. Rebeca invited to this event a
gentlemen who many years ago had an accident and lost his legs and
left hand. He had a testimony about his life and how God helped
him to continue living. He is working in construction and sustains his
family. He is a strong Christian and he plays pan-pipes, for the
service he chose some old songs so everyone could sing. He
encouraged everyone not to look just on our problems and circumstances
but to give them to God and concentrate more on the blessings God
gives us every day.
Last month we celebrated life and our elderly. At Oradea
Centre we celebrated
Floare
(85 years),
Maria
(77 years),
Virgil
(79 years) and
Agneta (85 years). In
Salonta we celebrate
Niculina (77 years),
Maria S. (86 years)
and
Maria
(80 years). Please keep them all in your prayers.
In November we had 5 new residents coming in Oradea and 2
in Salonta. At the moment we have the highest number of residents
since we opened the two centres, a total of 70 (Oradea – 45 and
Salonta 25). We have a few places free but one is already reserved for
December.
December is a special month! Our prayer and desire is to
make it special for our elderly. We want them to feel the love and the
warmth of a home. We prepared some special events for them and we hope
this will bring joy in their hearts. Also we will have some mission
trippers visiting us during this period and I am sure those of you
that will come and visit will make them feel very special.
May God bless you, your families and dear ones as we
enter this special time of the year and remember; you are blessed by
God, so be sure to bless others!
With great appreciation for all you do,
Georgi

Joint Facility of Love, Salonta; Doris Elderly
Care Centre
Prayer points:
-
For December, can be a hard month as
during the Holiday Season the elderly will not be at home and can
feel more depressed and lonely than normal. Please pray for our
staff to have a loving heart and help the residents feel at home,
away from home.
-
To thank God for one and two years of
service;
-
For the years that come, to not give up
when it’s hard but to continue doing good for God’s glory, even when
people around us will want to destroy what we do.
-
For God to prepare the new residents
that will come in the centres and experience the love of God through
the care we provide;
-
For the new residents to adapt in the
centres;
-
For the future accreditation of the
"Doris Centre", Salonta.
-
For God's protection upon all Smiles
staff and beneficiaries;
-
For having sufficient money to pay the
staff and all the associated costs
-
For staff to always be kind to those in
need;
-
For health and well-being for residents
and staff as we enter in the colder months;
-
For all Smiles staff to be a testimony
of God’s love so others will get to know HIM.
Please pray for us because when you pray God
hears more than what you say, answers more that we ask, gives more
than we can imagine in His own time and in His own way.
