Report from Georgi Opreanu, Director of Elderly Care  - November 2016

October, what a beautiful month! Our God made everything so beautiful, and when we look around us, we can see Him in everything and when we look inside us, to everything He did and how He blessed us, we see His good and kind heart.

This month we had so many things to be thankful for. On October 16th 2013 we received our first residents in Salonta JFL Elderly Care Home and on 23rd October 2014 we were blessed to have our first residents in Oradea Elderly Care Home.

This month we looked back and remembered the beginning, the first meeting with the staff, the resident that was first to come in, all the people that we met during these years and all the lives we touch in one way or another. Some are still we us, but some are now with the Lord they served. We miss them so much, because they have a special place in our heart, some were with us just for a short time, but all of them received the care they needed so much, and because of that, we thank God for entrusting us with them. We remember how God changed lives and people came to know Him because of the testimony of those around them.

During these years in the two homes, we cared for more than 300 people and our prayer is to be able to offer every person that we come across hope and love, for a better future.

In both the centres we celebrated "Thankful day" and we were thankful to God, for His blessing, to staff for the care and love they offer, to our donors for providing the financial support that we need, to all the people that visit us and had brought joy in our life, and for so many other things. This day, was a day of reminiscence, when everyone was encouraged to tell us memories and give us advice from their experience. It was such a blessed time and we, once again remember that "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights"

This past month we had visitors from the UK and America and I want to thank all of them for their impact on our work. We had teams coming and painting in ECO, refreshing some rooms, but also putting some colours on the walls, making in this way the centre looking more homely. In Salonta we had also visitors, doing crafts, pampering the ladies in the centre, having fellowship and prayer time in their rooms.

Special thanks to Doctors Jim and Donna Watts, for taking time from their busy lives to come to Romania blessing people with eye examinations and providing glasses and improving their quality of life in this way.

We appreciate all your efforts, we know it is not easy, but you can be assured that through your time spent here you are bringing joy into so many lives. We are thankful to God for you.

A special time this month was when we took 13 residents from ECO to Felix for a walk near the lily pond and afterwards for cake and juice at a local restaurant. On the same day one of the ladies celebrated 82 years and we were able to sing to her and make her feel special. Thank you to Offington Park Methodist Church for donating the bus to us and for Darren and Mike driving across Europe to us. In this way everyone can benefit from trips like this, even if they are depending on a wheel chair. On behalf of the elderly that came on this trip, I want to thank Kevin for making time to take us, stay with us and bless us with some very special memories. But now we have a problem…I am very often asked by the residents…when is the next trip? Hope we will have the resources to do it again!

Dear friends, please don’t forget to be thankful for all the beautiful things and people God brings into your life, because we don’t deserve any and one day it will be too late. We are thankful to God for you all!

I will end this report with a question for you: If you will wake up tomorrow morning and you will have only the things that you thank God for...what would you still have?

With many thanks for all you do for my elderly residents of JFL and ECO.

Georgi
