Special Report -  Tennis Camp - October 2007

Tennis group
The primary goal of
John Noakes (Tennis Coach) and Taco Nijhoff (a top ten wheelchair tennis player in the world) was to provide opportunities for children and adults with physical disabilities to play tennis and enjoy doing so with able-bodied people.

Taco
John and Taco came from Holland to spend a week in the Smiles Foundation working with Hospitals, Rehabilitation centres, Doctors, Physiotherapists, the disabled, University students and Professors, Gypsy and Romanian.

During the week, they undertook two sessions each day. In total, there were 8 adults in the wheelchair, 14 able bodied and 5 handicapped. They had the opportunity to play tennis together.

Action Tennis

The game of wheelchair tennis follows the same rules as able-bodied tennis, except that the wheelchair tennis player is allowed two bounces
of the ball.
It was a tremendous week for all the children and adults that experienced this programme.

Our sincere thanks to John and Taco.
