The Carp family
is made up of 8 members,
the parents
plus six children with the seventh child on the way. The
income of the family is small and the only one who’s working is the
father, but the income varies with the season and the rest of the
money comes
from the monthly State benefits. For many months of each year, the
family have to put up with living in financial crisis, the worst part
being the lack of food and education. In order to help the family
budget, the children have to take care of the goats, which is another
important source of income for this family, but the problem is that
children are missing school during the process.

When
we talk of a family living in poverty, we have to talk about the house
they live in….or in this case we have to emphasise ….the room in which
they live! The entire family shares the same room. That’s the reason
why the youngest children from this family benefit from the services
that Smiles offer in the Cihei Children Centre. Here, each one
of them has their own bed, their own plate of food, water, a space in
which they can develop and also education is offered through the daily
activities in the centre. |

Iosif,
Darius and Petru are
the three brothers that we care for from the family and they care a
lot about each other. Iosif will go to school next September which
means that he is in kindergarten now. Darius is trying to do his best
in order to show his qualities and potential, waiting for appreciation
when he’s finished his task. He’s a very ambitious child. Petru…he’s
the youngest in the family, he’s the type of child that ‘falls in love
with you’ and quickly gives you his trust….you are then rewarded with
many smiles! |
|
These children
have learnt to smile, to learn the proper skills for their age, and
have even learnt to walk. This sounds strange, but when Petru first
came to our Centre, he didn’t even know how to walk, but now he can
run together with the others.
It’s a wonderful achievement for us to know that we can be part of
these children’s lives, helping them and developing their potential
and skills, encouraging them to become people with character. As these
children grow up, they will be thankful to all those that made it
possible, through prayers and financial support, for them to be
staying in our Centre enabling them to develop and gain confidence in
themselves as well as having a happier and more comfortable childhood.
