From Cihei Children’s Centre

We want to share with you the story of a boy called Dani who is 4 years and 7 months old.

He is part of a gypsy family that has social and financial problems. He first came in Cihei Children Centre in
March 2008, because a person that new the situation that he was living in asked us for help. His father is in prison and the mother has 3 other children to take care of and didn’t really care for Dani.

Dani has a lot of potential, but the lack of education of his parents made him not to “play by the rules”. His adaptation to the “rules” of the Children Centre was hard. The staff were also struggling with him, he has a very strong personality and is very active. Another factor was that he could not speak Romanian. Also he was not used to obey, he didn’t listen when he was told to wash his hands before meals or that he has to sleep during the nap time. To all that he was told to do he knew just one word “NO”. We could continue with so many examples, but the progress he made is much more important than this. For us is such an accomplishment to see him at craft activities listening to the instruction that he gets and to ask for help from time to time, not to do the things only in his way. It is a delight and an inspiration for us when we can hear the poems that he learns in the centre.

At the end of August he left the centre to go and live with his mother again. But soon after that the mother left the house and went in Southern Ireland, leaving him in the care of his grandma that could not supervise him because she is old.

This month, Dani came back to the centre and was an encouragement for us to see that what he learned before is not forgotten. This time, his adaptation was less painful, because he already knew that he needs to listen to what he is told to do. Of course he still has his strong personality, but we know that if it is well guided he can achieve something later in his life.

We are very content that we can help through this centre, children and families that are in need of influence in their life in a good way.

Dani wants to say thank you for everything that you are doing for him, ensuring him a warm room, a clean bed, a healthy diet and more than that, a big portion of LOVE that he gets everyday.
