A Day of Kindness – Across Two Countries

A Partnership between The Smiles Foundation and Bromsgrove Standard Newspaper is creating a very special Day to benefit the Building Fund of a project in Romania to assist both the Elderly and Disabled Children.

Since 2005, Bromsgrove in Worcestershire has held a ‘Day of Kindness’ organised by Phil Haynes and supported by the Standard.

This year, the event will take place on October 12th but not just in Bromsgrove – but twinned in spirit and activity will be Sanmartin/Cihei in Bihor County, NW Romania.

The Smiles Foundation and Bromsgrove Standard will have the full support of Phil Haynes in attempting to use the ‘Day of Kindness’ to raise substantial funds for the new facility to be based in Cihei on The Smiles Foundation’s property.

The entire facility will incorporate Nursing Home & Assisted Living Centre for the Elderly on one side, along with Home & Facilities for Disabled Children on the other. Bihor County, Romania does not have proper facilities for either category and there is great need and interest locally for this project to be established and operating as soon as possible.

Initial construction costs are set at £393,500 and we hope to raise 25% of the budget on October 12th by raising £100,000 on the Bromsgrove ‘Day of Kindness’.

We’d like to invite Businesses, Schools, Churches and all organisations, groups and members of the public to get involved. Together we can do this and in the process change the Hope and Future of so many disadvantaged people in Romania.

Mayor of Sanmartin/Cihei, Lucian Popus is delighted to be hosting the ‘twinned’ event in his province. Local press will be covering the event and one hopes to be in England twinning reporting opportunities with the Standard.

Trustees and representatives from The Smiles Foundation UK and Romania will be in Bromsgrove for 11th & 12th October to both attend the ‘Day of Kindness’ and be present at the concert booked for 11th October at the ARTRIX Theatre in Bromsgrove for a concert involving local schools and a special appearance of the Tileagd Community School Choir, Romania.

On October 12th in Sanmartin/Cihei, Romania – The Smiles Foundation will be organising a Party for 50 Elderly who will enjoy lunch at the Smiles Mission Centre. The same day, 50 children including disabled children will be having fun with Games and lots of food on the future site of the Disabled Children’s Centre.

Maybe we can do the same in Bromsgrove!

Also that week, The Smiles Foundation is arranging a World recognised Tennis Coach and expert in Tennis for the Disabled to be holding a week long coaching camp in Sanmartin/Cihei.
