October 12th 2007
A Day of Kindness – Cihei Romania

Disabled children’s programme:
The programme for 11 disabled children had two sessions; the first was the actual programme when all the introductions were done, then we sang together after learning a song about God’s soldiers and then we did some crafts. They did some handprints that were cut off and stuck together forming a big tree with their names on each branch of the tree. After that they were asked to give me an autograph on my t-shirt with a marker, to make sure it will last even after washing it.

We had a special guest: a disabled young man who shared his hopes and dreams. He was helped by a TV show and received an electric wheelchair and an artificial leg.  Then there were small presents like key holders with their name
s on and bookmarks with special messages.

The second session was actually the surprise we prepared for them which was a free meal at KFC at Lotus Shopping Centre in Oradea. They were very excited about it and very happy, especially the parents were very pleased to see their children happy. We made some photos as well and it was a really beautiful day.

The impressions of the parents were very honest and emotional. Some of them cried and praised God for that day and they long for the day when they can experience that again. I spoke with the parents and I heard their stories. It was incredible ho
w the single mothers could raise and help their handicapped children and help them fight and get through the difficult situations they have been through.

I had the opportunity to know these children and to realise that even if they couldn’t walk, their walk with God is sometimes much straighter than ours. These are children who can’t talk but communicate more efficiently than we do sometimes.

So the parents were very excited and I could see that they long for a place for their children, where they can live their simple lives and share their dreams. This will be the Cihei Disabled Children’s Centre.

Able bodied children
The day of 12 October 2007 was full of games and fun for all 30 children from age 5 to 14 from Cihei and Sânmartin, children that were invited by Smiles team because of the Kindness Day.

The programme was in Sânmartin’s school sports hall and there were lots of games,
competitions, food and prizes. The children were delighted and very happy that they could be part of such wonderful event. We were thankful to their parents which supported and encouraged them to be part of that special day.

Smiles team want to thank especially our sponsors from Coca Cola and KFC for all the prizes that we receive from them. Our thanks to Codrean Travel for providing travel for the elderly & disabled.

Codrean VanFor these children, that day was unique.

We think the Kindness Day in Romania was a great day, a successful one, and all together, guests and organisers, have a positive impression for this special and unique event in Bihor county.

Elderly

Another event for Cihei’s Day of Kindness on October 12th was the Smiles special event for 40 elderly who enjoyed a lunch at the Smiles Mission Centre.

The program had three parts:
. The opening
speech from the
Smiles team and other officials including the Mayor.
. The lunch time

. Fellowship with the elderly.

Through all our work, our goal was to bring a smile on their faces that were full of sadness and loneliness. Even though our society ignores them, this special event had an impact in our friends life by starting to understand that they are important and  wonderful.

The result of what Smiles organised was more than they could ever imagine.
