Fundraising Report

Thousands of people raise thousands of pounds and dollars for the projects of the Smiles Foundation every year. Often, in addition to operating costs totally half a million pounds a year
($1 million) people share in the challenge of fund raising for major Capital projects.

£1 million / $2 million was raised for the Tileagd Community Complex
£½ million / $1 million was raised for the Smiles Mission Centre and Offices
£¼ million / $½ million was raised for the Cihei & Gepiu Children Centres

Now – plans are on the drawing board for another £500,000 / $1 million development in Cihei for a 30 Bed Nursing Home for the Elderly and Care facility for Disabled Children.

In each and every case, whilst thousands contribute to the final achievement, someone generally has the passion and drive to get it going and keep it going until success is achieved.

In the case of the Cihei Disabled Children’s facility, John and Joan Mayo from Bromsgrove have the Passion and Drive. The project is for a joint facility serving both the elderly and disabled children – but just as passionate as John and Joan are for disabled children, so others are for the needs of caring for the old and frail. For example, Paul Swithenbank, director of a Nursing Home supply company, is undertaking the Blackpool Half Marathon next year and has set himself the target of raising £2,000 for the Elderly project. If you would like to encourage him, visit his fund-raising site:

This past month, John and Joan Mayo organised a fundraising Flower Arranging Demonstration that was held at Catshill Baptist Church on November 12th. A very successful event indeed and £1,100/$2,200 was raised for the proposed Centre for Disabled Children.  The theme of "Ruby & Rose" (from Upstairs Downstairs) was portrayed with flower arrangers, Virginia Davies and Diana Kiteley, dressing for the part, and organiser, John Mayo, dressed as "Hudson".  A great evening was enjoyed by over 100 people.

The Mayo's next fundraising event is a Clay Pigeon Shoot on June 3rd. If you are interested please email for details to: Clay Pigeon

Nearly £40,000 / $80,000 is in the account for the new facility so far. If you have a passion for the elderly and disabled children – join the team and raise funds this year for this crucially important facility.
