TILEAGD COMMUNITY SCHOOL REPORT

‘The First Day’ of the new academic year in Tileagd.

We were so happy to be part of the new school year opening in Tileagd! The ‘First Day’ is so special. The children were all so excited about it and had such fun seeing their friends again after such a long summer break. They were also very curious about the new and exciting things awaiting them in the higher grade and could not wait for the teachers to take them to their new class rooms.

The morning started with a short presentation from the School Director, Mrs Clara Ungureanu. She welcomed everybody, especially parents and the small children starting the first grade, who were just at the beginning of this new adventure called ‘School’. You could tell they were both curious and excited but also a little bit nervous and afraid… Who knows what deep secrets, unknown issues could come up? After this, Mrs Clara explained all the details for the new school year, the facts and strategy for the school programme, so everyone understood a little more of what to expect.

The children were also very keen on being presented. So, they were invited to come in front of the audience and each class was presented, together with their teachers. A lot of flowers, congratulations and kisses were given… Just the regular wonderful start of every school year in Romania!

It was the same even when I was in their shoes – feels like centuries ago… but I remember about the time, long ago, when I saw a little boy being very shy and he couldn’t be taken from his mother’s arms, to leave her and go with the new school friends. But we all understood – he was only in kindergarten, the smallest of the small, when everything seems so much bigger and sometimes quite frightening!
When all of the children were gathered at the front, I stepped forward and prayed for them and for the teachers, for the parents, for the school and asked God to protect them all, to help them in school and to let everybody see His love for them. Indeed, during the prayer, I could hear many of the parents agreeing with me, and their “Amen’s” was the best confirmation they understand and appreciate the ministry we provide for their children, so often beyond the school curriculum, but crucially important in the lessons of life. Most of them really appreciate the opportunity for their little ones to learn in a Christian foundation, where not only the teaching professionalism is important, but also the good character and healthy principles of Christian teaching.

After the prayer moment, the students were asked to go with their teachers, to see their new class rooms and to meet their new colleagues. They happily did that!

Towards the end, the parents were told some details they had to know about and they once again agreed to support their children, to encourage them and to help them in any way they could for them to be successful and get the best results in school. Mrs Clara insisted on how important their child’s education is and how much of a difference the family makes, when it comes to the future of the students and all they achieve.

The special Opening lasted for about an hour. The rest of the day was to let the children get use to the new environment, their teachers and new friends. Anyway, the first school day shouldn’t be too tiring. In fact, it is about the only day when the schedule does not matter quite so much!!

Please pray with us for all the children at Tileagd Community School and Nursery. That the opportunity provided to them through Smiles and your support will indeed make a life-changing difference we all know Education can.
