Maria’s Desk …. Director of Operations, Romania

A true adventure!!

Yes, we can talk about life generally, or we can talk about an experience that we had happening to us recently, either way - when God is there the adventure is worth while!

Last month I was writing my web report update from the UK roads, a really unexpected true adventure! So, because I was spending most of my July month in the UK I will let you know in more details about our adventure—the UK Schools Tour with the Tileagd Choir! I will let you know how the tour went, how the 4 new little members of the choir reacted to their first time experience, how the schools received us, and lots of other things!!!

After we arrived in UK, at Manchester airport, and after all the discussions I had on the plane with little Casandra and Monia and their surprise that this country, England has too many trees, I never imagined how that was just the beginning!

We managed to get some rest….well I say some, because the kids were up at 6 am next day getting ready for the road! …we did some shopping and got all our things packed for the first performance that we had Monday morning, In Wigton!

It was the most stressful one for me as it was the first one... but God was there and things were under control. That day we had another presentation in Workington which also went great. We had dinner with some of our friends that came to Romania 3 years ago and it was really nice to spend time with them and chat! Because the next day we had two different schools in different areas - Ulverston and Barrow, we realised that we had to get up again at 6 am! So in order to avoid that, we decided it was best to travel during the day time and find a place where to stay….Thanks to the Travelodge and their service across UK, we managed to find a place close to the next school!
So first day - Monday – very Successful!!

Tuesday started nice. A 15 minute drive to the school, two performances, kids were great. Because we had to be next day, Wednesday morning all the way to
Chelmsford, a drive of more than 6 hours, we decided as soon as we finished the schools to get in the car and hit the road! So we did!

Because Mr Hoy had lots of problems with his knee, we had to stop several times for rest! But surprise, surprise, after 3 hours of driving when we try to stop at a service area the car got sick. Well, I say so because we thought that she was ok and not any problem at all. But when Mr Hoy try to put it in gear it did not go…..1st gear, 2nd gear the same….and all the way to the 4th gear…when we realised that we can’t start the car in 4th gear anyway! So we stop the engine and went for 5 min break! When we came back the van did not start at all.

Our adventure started to be more fun! We called the AA man- or like little Stanescu said- SUPERMAN and Ben10 …and they came within 1 hour! When he realised what the problem is he said to us: “you are very lucky that it happened in a Service area and you are parked, cause if it was on the motorway God knows what could be the end! The gear box is gone and you can not drive this van anymore”….We were confused, because without a van, we could not move around, but thankful that God took care of us and we are all alive!!

The AA Service, which I would like to say a sincere THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH were very nice to us and when we told them our story they came back to us saying: “we will take you to the closest base you have, take the van to the garage and provide you two cars to get home and from there to sort the things out for the next weeks.”

While the kids and Meda waited patiently in the van, Me and Mr Hoy went with the AA man to Manchester airport and got the two cars they told us we can have to get back to Leeds. God was sooooo good to us that I got a brand new car, only 1200 miles on board, and for the next 2 weeks that car was like gold for me! We managed to get everywhere safely and in one piece back in Leeds by 2 am!!!

But what was next?? Well after 2 hour sleep we woke up and hit the road again. By 9.30 we were in Chelmsford, did the school presentations that were planned for us there and had a great time with our friends from Essex! Of course, after KFC dinner and the best ice cream that Jenny and David Lee provided for us, we went to bed!!

For the two days we were in that area the schools and presentations went really good! God took away our tiredness and gave us extra power to do the things HE told us to do and had already under control.

From Chelmsford we went down to Worthing, but on our way there Mr Hoy made a stop for 1 hour by the seaside in Brighton. It was for the first time when the little ones saw the sea and I tell you their eyes were wide open, their excitement took away all the tiredness that me or Mr Hoy had after hours of driving!

The time in
Worthing was great too, Annette did a great job putting together the schedule for our time there. Thank you Annette.

Than we drove again 9 hours to Redcar where Rob and Margaret Nightingale did a great job as well in planning our time with them. This time we did not have any incidents with the cars and God was good with us because after 2 weeks we still had fun and joy doing our work!

One day while we were on tour, the first day I think, Stanescu came to us telling us that his teeth is moving and needs to come out…So off he went to the bathroom and after few minutes came with his tooth in his hands showing to us! Mr Hoy looked at him and said: you know Stanescu - in UK the good kids put their teeth under the pillow and during the night time the tooth fairy comes and takes the tooth and leaves money there. Stanescu looked at me, than at Mr Hoy, than at the kids and he said: I do not need money…so off he went!

Few days later the same story! He went to the bathroom took another lose tooth out and came to Mr Hoy…..so Mr Hoy told him the same story! This time Stanescu took his teeth and put it under the pillow and during the night time the tooth fairy came and took his tooth and left 5 pounds there!!

Next morning, Stanescu very happy comes to Mr Hoy and all of us, showing the money and telling us how happy he is that he did this! When everyone stopped talking, Stanescu went to Cornel and very seriously asked him: “Cornel, if I take all my teeth out, can I buy a small laptop like Miss Maria has??????!!!!!!  (I have an ADVENT 10 inch mini notebook:)

So my friends, yes indeed our lives on this earth can be a true adventure, but when GOD is there, under control, it is a really great adventure!

Even though we went through all the things we did in July, (and I have much more to tell you but no more space or Mr Hoy will cut my page next time if I don’t stop) I can say that I’m thankful for the life that I have, for the family and friends that I have, for the cars that I drive---even when they break down- for the house that I live in, for the job that I have and for many, many other things……..THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!

Thank you ALL for reading my page and for your prayers!! Your prayers keep us going day by day and the adventure is a joy in having it!

Sincerely

Maria
