December 2009

Happy Holidays from America

As far as I can tell, December is just about every one’s favorite time of the year. The holidays, the decorations, the Christmas spirit and time with loved ones are all very special. But for those of us who live such blessed lives, it can be easy to forget that December can often be the most difficult time of the year. December sometimes brings cold weather and illness for many who do not have adequate clothing and shelter. Also, the holidays can be very difficult for families who have lost loved ones and particularly for families who are not together for the holidays for whatever reason. As the month of December progresses, I ask that you keep the people of Romania in your thoughts and prayers. While we enjoy the warmth of the holiday season here in the US, many families in Romania will struggle through their most difficult time of the year. Let’s not forget them this holiday season. I know that I won’t.

For me, November was another exciting month. After returning from Romania on November 3rd, I had a full schedule leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday. First was my half-marathon. I have to say thank you to each of you who supported my efforts by contributing to Smiles. My friends in the UK contributed £320 and my friends in the US contributed $530 dollars for a total of about
$1,042. Thank you to everyone. Your support means so much to me and even more to the people we are serving in Romania.

The day after my half-marathon, Kevin and Maria arrived in the States for a week long series of meetings.
We met with special people in Norfolk VA, Richmond, VA, Kingsport TN, Charlotte NC and Atlanta GA. Kevin and Maria even found time to make a quick trip to Jacksonville FL. I can honestly say that I sensed God’s hand on every meeting and conversation we had. His presence was real and each conversation was positive and productive. We met with folks who have been critical to the success of Smiles over the years. We met with some folks who were involved with Smiles in the past and are now hoping to get re-engaged. We even met with folks who are new to Smiles and the work we do. We laid important ground work for the choir tour that is coming in the early part of 2010 and for mission trips that are being planned and prayed over for 2010. Thank you to those who took the time out of your busy schedules to meet with us. It was a pleasure to meet each of you.

Well, since I returned from Romania, I have been praying diligently about leading several teams of mission trippers from the US to Romania in 2010. In the summer, I would like to bring a team that would conduct summer camp activities (sports, music, art, etc.) for children in our ministry areas. In the late spring or fall, I would like to bring a construction team. Then, in December, I would like to bring a team to help with our very special Sack of Smiles program.
Please pray about being a part of one of these teams. If you are interested in one of these teams, please call me or email me. I would love to be in touch with you.

I have heard from a number of Americans who have said they would love to come on a mission trip in 2010 but are not sure it is possible for one reason or another. Let me encourage you. If God places the desire in your heart to join us in Romania in 2010, He will clear all of the obstacles as well. Remember that, with Him, all things are possible.
Don’t limit what God wants to do with your heart and in your heart in 2010.

I know the holidays will come and go quickly. I pray that each of you has a blessed holiday season. Again, don’t forget the people of Romania during the holidays. One special way of remembering them would be to support a child or family during December. You can sponsor a
Sack of Smiles for a special child in Romania by clicking here . You can make a special contribution for a Romanian family in need by supporting our 200 Hope Club .

Don’t forget about the
2010 Tileagd Choir Tour coming just weeks after the New Year begins. Keep an eye out for the schedule which will be coming soon.

May each of you have a very special holiday Season.

All My Best,

Greg Willis
