Therefore encourage one another...                   May 2017

Dear Friends

1 Thessalonians 5:11 "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

Each month has its own interesting and encouraging days.

As May arrives, the excitement and anticipation rises for those going on Mission this summer. Our ‘preparation and focus’ is important as we ‘GO’. I encourage each of you to read carefully the reports shared, read the Prayer & Praise section on the Website, and pray into each story, project, leaders and circumstances. I encourage you to present your thoughts daily to God; together we can cover every detail of the Mission Work with His power and protection.

Lindsay McKinlay led a team in April from Strathaven, she wrote:
"
God rewards our patience! It has been on my heart for several years to bring a team from my church to Romania. Last year, it was confirmed, and through prayer the number 12 was in my head - and right up until the week we left, I was quietly disappointed that we 'only' had 11 on our team! I wondered if someone might join us at the last minute. However, God was right, as always. When we arrived in Romania, Jonathan from England slotted into our team. 12 as God had promised!

Mission teams are wonderful. Friends, families, church groups, school groups, scouts, guides and total strangers, of all ages, from different countries and from all backgrounds and walks of life all come together with the common goal of serving. Mission work brings everyone closer in a way that is very difficult to articulate. If you've never experienced a mission trip with Smiles I urge you to do so soon!"

As you receive this letter I ask you to pray for our Smiles trailer which will be leaving Northern Ireland on 6th May packed with essential aid. Thank you for your donations, pray for the drivers as they travel, and thank you McBurney Transport for your sponsorship support.

Let me share some recent tremendous Fundraising;

Team Benburb had a BIG Breakfast in the Parish Church Hall. The young people had a Bun Sale at Drumglass High School. These events raised £2874.00 ($3,736)

Penny and Victoria who are going on their trip on 29th April, held a Beetle Drive in Jack Straws, Belfast which was a very enjoyable evening; raising £676.00 ($878)

Team October has started some activity, thank you!

Margaret Graham hosted a Coffee Morning, Cake & Craft Sale in Ballintoy on a beautiful spring morning; raising £830.50 ($1,079) A great day, sharing coffee and cake.

We had a Bag pack in Ballycastle Eurospar on Easter Saturday, collecting £745.40 ($968) Great fun!

Team Jean held their Fashion Show in Dalmellington Church with a Sale of Crafts, supper, and support of Bonmarche Fashions. What a night of fun and fashion, raising £692.00 ($900) Look out for the next one!

Team Aghadowey Cash for Clobber collection totalled £212.00 ($276)

James and Eithne Smyth opened their home for a Coffee Morning, inviting family and friends; an amazing total £973.50 ($1,265)

Mary McCoy visited Coyles Cottage Knitting Group who presented beautiful knitwear and a generous cheque for £260.00 ($338) following a Shrove Tuesday Coffee Morning.

The Knitting Group presented their beautiful work, after a lovely lunch and fellowship.

Rob & Margaret Nightingale held a Coffee Morning and sale in St Hilda’s with the help of Jenny, Dorothy and Ed, raising £386.45 ($502)

Presentations are popular and effective, please seek opportunities to share your stories.

Samuel Cochrane and Jacquie Cochrane shared their Mission Trip experience at their U3A group in Ballymoney. A very enjoyable and emotional morning.

I appreciate all your events, knowing the commitment it takes to plan and organise. Please send me your photographs and a few lines about your event. We can encourage each other and pick up ideas for ourselves, but we also encourage our colleagues in Romania as they read our stories. They depend on ‘our work’ to fund ‘their work’, so let’s continue with serving hearts to;

"encourage each other and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

Blessings

Barbara
