THE BRATCA HOSPITAL
ORPHANAGE
The Bratca Hospital Orphanage is a happier place today than when The
Smiles Foundation was first made aware of it.
In October 2002, a
telephone call came through to the Smiles office from a Christian doctor,
visiting the hospital as part of his regular monthly routine work. He
worked as a Psychiatrist for the Romanian
State Health Authority.
As a result of extreme financial pressures on the Romanian State, the
Hospital’s budget had been cut. The residents, all severely mentally and
physically disabled, were very cold as the heating system had run out of
fuel and they were eating dry bread for every meal as no money was
available for food.
The Smiles Foundation asked its Supporters to help and following a
wonderful response, the Foundation began regular delivery of food and
replaced the entire heating system with a more efficient and economical
facility.
The Bratca Hospital is a permanent residential facility for young
people abandoned by their families due to their extreme disabilities which
the family felt unable to cope with. Since the urgency of the situation
was resolved, the Smiles Foundation has continued its support with
repairing and replacing Baths, Showers and Toilets and has built a ‘Day
Centre’ for the residents to
enjoy during the long
harsh winters.
Smiles has also purchased several cows to assist the Hospital with fresh
milk and meat along with supplying all the wood needed for the 6 months of
heating requirements during October to March each year.
In 2002, the initial emergency appeal was very well supported. Now we need
regular monthly support to maintain the commitment to these children of
God who can only look to others for help.
IF I
WAS FORGOTTEN............WOULD YOU REMEMBER ME?
