Sarah Urwin Our children’s outreach project is co-ordinated by English missionary Sarah Urwin, supported by a team of Romanian young people, and regularly assisted by visiting mission teams.

Smiles Holiday Bible Clubs started in the Summer of 2003, and since then we have evangelised to hundreds of children all over the county.

Our Holiday Bible Club’s aim to teach The Romanian Team with the puppetsthe gospel very simply to children in villages where there is little access to the gospel. We use puppets, drama, games, memory verses and competitions to share the message of Christ. We are always faced with the challenge of keeping the children’s attention, explaining why the bible is relevant to the children’s lives, in challenging them, and never “watering down” the message of the gospel.

Holiday Bible Clubs are an effective wayPuppets in action to present the gospel over a 3 day period in a village; but after the program is finished it means leaving the children without discipleship. We recognised the need for continued work with the children, in order to teach them more, and develop their faith. Therefore we have begun to work on a weekly program “Smiles Club” in one of the villages. This is a wonderful ministry because we are able to cultivate relationships with the children, and study the bible more deeply than is possible in a short Holiday Bible Club.

This Christmas, for the first time, we ran a Christmas Holiday Bible club, working in two different villages. We tried to present the story of the first Christmas in a new and exciting way; using puppets and theatre to catch the children’s attention, and focusing on the importance of why this baby Jesus was born, and what our response needs to be.

We never turn anyone away from our Smiles Club childrenchildren’s outreach – and often minister to children and young people between 18 months and 18 years old – a very challenging age range to focus on! We often have visiting parents and grandparents, and they seem to enjoy the program as much as the children.

After the Christmas program, one old man told us, with tears in his eyes “
I really felt God in the room with us – thank you for coming; please come back every day!Craft time

Please pray for this vital ministry of sharing the gospel with these poor and largely un-evangelised villages.
