Graduation
Day 2008
Tileagd Community
School completed its fifth year of operating on Friday 13th
2008. 5 academic years of helping the underprivileged to have an
education. What a remarkable difference we are now seeing. |
|

|
|
Children, who 5
years ago couldn’t write their name and therefore registered for
school with a hand-print, are now graduating 4th, 5th and
even 6th grade with pupils completing their second year
at the state school supported by extra classes at the Smiles School. |
 |
 |
We also have several
older children attending ‘Second Chance’ in the city of Oradea. A
class for mature students for grades 5-8. They attend our school for
special tuition Monday through Thursday, and then attend the State
facility Friday and Saturday. These young people are attempting to
complete 2 grades a year, completing 5-8 grades in two years. |
|
All the children are
doing very well. This past academic year also had a major intake of
non-Gypsy children to the school, fulfilling our objective of seeing
integration starting to happen amongst the children who
fundamentally have ‘no prejudice’. |

 |
The opening of the
final phase of the Complex will make a huge impact on the school
both with the new Gymnasium for a Physical Education programme and
the Church, providing opportunity to commence regular weekly
assemblies from September and present staged presentations for
Christmas, Easter and Graduations. As the graduations last week
proved – the children love space to perform and many visitors
enjoyed the facilities of the new complex. |
|
Many requests are
being received for new children to join our school. We want to say
yes, but to do so, we need more sponsors. Educating children to the
standards we have set at Tileagd Community School is not a cheap
commitment. Please consider helping with a monthly or annual
sponsorship. £420 / $720 can give a child an opportunity we take for
granted, but for many in Tileagd, attending the Smiles Community
School would be a dream can true.
