The Joint Facility of Love

Panoramic View Salonta Building

Behind this beautiful building in the quiet market town of Salonta (Romania) has been a lot of activity in the past few months. The Smiles Foundation had a dream to build a much needed facility for two vulnerable groups within Romanian society – the Elderly and the Disabled.

In Romania, these people are often neglected and left without the means to provide the most basic level of care we would expect for even just human dignity, let alone the significant extra care and attention such people require and deserve.

The Smiles Foundation always seeks to serve and honour God by responding to needs that we become aware of. We never have all the details in place before we start. We never have sufficient money in the bank to cover the cost. But we always have a passion to do what if right and we have a wonderful support base across the world that believes the same. Most important of all, is we have a God who never lets us down or fails to provide our needs.

Therefore the JOINT FACILITY of LOVE is a dream in the process of being realised!

First we had to locate a site which we successfully did in summer of 2010. After several months of negotiation, we purchased the land and buildings for £300,000 ($450,000). To date, we have received £233,000 ($350,000) towards this Capital Campaign. Please continue to support to the best of your ability and means.

From what we had acquired, we could successfully run a retail shop, a Christian Coffee-shop, a Restaurant in addition to the planned development of the Elderly Care Home and Centre for Children with Disabilities.

Demolition of the old buildings began in April 2011, with salvaging various supplies of value and usefulness in other projects.

In September 2011, we negotiated Phase One of Construction with a company for £130,000 ($200,000). First, some major demolition was required while plans and authorisations were prepared for State Approval for the new construction.
