Volunteers Corner from Barbara – February 2017

Dear Friends

….. faithful in Prayer.

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:11-12 NIV).

I cannot miss the opportunity to say how thrilled and blessed I felt as I read Kevin’s January Newsletter, hearing of the end of year appeal being fully supported, allowing this New Year to begin with a clearer slate and new plans for Tileagd. There is always exciting news from the Smiles HQ News Desk!

Thank you for being a part of all that is happening. Together we are and can continue to make a difference. When I read about this wonderful support and great progress, I was reminded that ‘with God, all things are possible’.

Smiles Day LogoYou have your very own opportunity to get cracking with our SMILES DAY coming up at the weekend, Saturday 4th February 2107. I am delighted by your response to get involved with some interesting challenges and fundraisers already in place. We have Quiz Nights, a Shuffle Board Evening, A Slimming Challenge, A Craft School, A Dinner, A Hot Chocolate Afternoon, A Pudding Party, A Concert …….

These will all be great fun, and you still have time to organise something and take part. Let’s fill the events page with events and really make a difference to support these ‘quieter’ months of the year, equipping our colleagues on the ground with the vital funds to bring love and support every day to those who NEED a little help to cope with life!

On Saturday we can ALL take part. I invite you to pray with me for Smiles, to take some quiet time out of your day with a coffee, and pray! You might know the saying; ‘little prayer, little happens…..much prayer, much happens’. Here are some suggested points;

Pray for:
•Kevin following his surgery, healing and full recovery. His leadership and the responsibility he carries with Maria, Georgi and Adi
•All the projects in place and the people reached & supported daily
•Pastor Vasile, his ministry in many communities and for continued spiritual growth
•Funding required from UK and America, for great commitment and increasing support
•The extremely cold weather conditions experienced in Romania in recent weeks

Creative Hands GroupI would like to thank Liz Houston and her team, Creative Hands, for their faithful fundraising and for her lovely report on their special Craft and Coffee Day;

“This is our 10th year so a bit special for us. We have sent quite a few thousand pounds to Smiles now, about £14,000 ($18,200) l think; just by selling crafts at a few pounds each. It is quite amazing for my small group. My vision was one craft table & a coffee morning, l didn’t expect 10 years of crafting.”

Also we have people preparing for Mission trips this summer already getting busy and very successful with their fund-raising events.

Aghadowey CyclingThe Aghadowey Team going in July held a ‘Cycle for Romania’ weekend, with 6 static bikes spinning over the 2 days, with friends, community, Boy’s Brigade and parents all joining in the fun and refreshments. It was an amazing event, and we are blessed to have been donated £3000 ($3,900) over the weekend. Thank you for taking part and contributing towards a successful and fun event.

HHannah's fundraisingannah Davidson who is heading to Romania in April hosted a Table Quiz in her local Church Hall. It was a packed event, loads of prizes, great questions and clearly very generous supporters. Thank you to everyone who contributed to an amazing total of £1400 ($1,820). Well done Davidsons, always great family support!

These reports really encourage us and give us ideas to use in our own areas. Please continue sending me your photographs and a short report of your event.

Smiles Container TruckThis year we are once again very thankful for 2 local Haulage Companies from Northern Ireland, McBurney Transport and John Adams, who are sponsoring and driving our Smiles Trailer to Cihei, enabling us to send two loads of essential aid, first in May and then again in September. As you may know we continually collect and pack; our aim to carefully fill each load with exactly what is required by Smiles.

We have managed to source the Hospital Beds for the 1st load which was Kevin’s request in the last Newsletter, so we thank God for this miracle again! Kernohan’s, who donated the Trailer, will be putting it through PSV inspection in March, before the journey.

If you can help in any way, please get in touch. I have Drivers offering to drive for us, we will welcome more Companies willing to help with sponsorship to cover the costs. We need bulk supplies of various items at different times; for example we now need a bulk supply of Toilet Rolls. If you can help with anything, please get in touch.

Before I sign off, if you are not yet booked for your Mission Trip this year, we need to talk! We have several options throughout the year, teams you can join, a great opportunity for you to serve God in a special way and have one of the best experiences in your life. Contact Dawn or myself as soon as possible!

Let’s make a real difference together this ‘Smiles Day’ either at your event or as we pray together and really trust God to give us all we need. Thank you for all you are doing.

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:11-12 NIV).

Blessings

Barbara
