An important moment:
One of the
special moments that will stay forever in my mind and I will never
forget -happened a few years ago when I started working with The
Smiles Foundation in the State Children’s Hospital in Oradea. I met
lots of abandoned children and when I was entering into their rooms
they raised their hands to me so I would offer them love and hold them
in my arms. This was one of the first moments when I faced the hard
reality of this world... at that time I was still a student hoping I
will change the world when I finish university. I didn’t know at that
time the realities of this country. When I realise how hard it
will be to change the world I started praying for strength to help
those that are around me.
In my mind, children always had a special place and inevitably at one
point I “fall in love” with one of the kids that I met in the
hospital. He was an unloved child, he was put aside and nobody wanted
him. I start to take a special interest in him and help him to develop
according to his age. In a short while I could see the transformation
that was made in his life, he became more cheerful, more confident in
himself and he learnt how to smile back to me. But the day when his
mum came to take him home came sooner than I was prepared to let him
go. I knew that at home he would not be loved and cared for as I would
hope for him. At that point my head was broken. I didn’t know what
to do, so I decided to pray for his future. For two years I didn’t
know a thing about him, but then I find out that his mother abandoned
him again and he would go in a Christian foster care centre. This news
was amazing...God answered my prayers. I am so thankful that He took
care of this child in a special way. I see him often now in the Sunday
school at my church and I can thank God for this. God is faithful
to us...and I keep praying for this child, so God will use him for His
Glory.
Family Details:
I have
a wonderful family. My family is a special one – I have a great
brother and a sister likewise. When we all get together the whole
house resounds with laughter and joy – we have a lot of fun together.
Of course my two nephews Isai and Timoty have a great part in this –
(they are my sister’s children) and they are full of life, energy and
they never get tired. I am glad that they are part of my family
together with a great brother-in-law. Also a special and very
important person in my family is my grandpa Stephan – who is 88 years
old.
Interests/Hobbies:
When I think
of what I like to do most in my free time, I also remember the time
when I was in my church with others teenagers and we were full of
energy and we went year after year on so many trips to different
places, especially hiking. We were young and restless. Now every time
when I have the chance I spend my free time in the middle of God’s
Creation, in the nature. Also I love taking pictures, taking good
shots of the places I’m visiting.
A day in the life of...
Being a
social worker in Smiles is a challenge - I always need to have a
backup plan in solving the social problems that I face. It is a
continuous challenge and fight for what I believe is right. In the
work we have considerable success with the people, but sometimes it
brings us joy but disappointments too. I often ask myself if I took
the right decision, or if I explored all the options for my
beneficiaries, but for sure I never get bored. I always look for a
solution; I’m making plans and make sure they are followed, hoping
that my work will help somebody to improve their life.
Hopes
for the future:
My wish
and hope is that through my work I can be a blessing for the people
around me. I know that the place where I am now is not random, and God
wants me to give my best. I wish my life will be a model for the
Smiles Foundation’s beneficiaries and to leave my fingerprint on their
life.
