The projects within Smiles 500
Care
Club are managed by our Deputy Director – Georgi Opreanu.
In 2010, Smiles made an important decision that would significantly
impact future financing and management of our work in Romania – to
develop Residential Care Facilities. We started what was
basically a ‘trial period’ at our Cihei HQ, where we converted a small
facility for supporting Vulnerable Women into an eight (8) bed Elderly
Care Home. At the same time we purchased land and launched a major
appeal to build our own ‘purpose built’ Elderly Care Home in Salonta.
Our small facility in Cihei was soon out grown and with eleven (11)
residents by 2013 – we were pleased to see the opening of our first
‘purpose built’ facility very soon! |

 The ‘Doris’ Centre at JFL 1 Salonta
(Joint Facility of Love)
is managed by
Georgi assisted by Ligia Mitra and on site by Social Assistant –
Rebeca Mariscas. The ‘Doris’ Centre is home to 30 elderly people who
need social or medical care on a full-time basis. The facility is one
of the finest examples of Elderly Care in the county and possibly
further afield, having received a 5* rating by inspectors in 2015. |

 The Disability Wing at JFL 2 Salonta (Joint Facility of Love) .
The
growing concerns and demand for specialist care encouraged Smiles to
build this special wing at JFL Salonta. A residential home for twelve
(12) Dementia and Alzheimer sufferers to have the care and
attention needed for the individual, as well as provide support and
relief for family members under extreme pressure to cope with such
family needs. The facility also provides Day Care for Disability
Support for children and adults who can benefit immensely, as do our
Elderly Residents, from the in-house Sensory Room, Hydrotherapy Pool
and Stimulating Activity Room. |

 Elderly Care Oradea Project
came about
when the State had renovated an old building with a €1million EU
Grant, but needed someone to utilise and manage the facility. Smiles
won the contract to manage an Elderly Care Home on a ten (10) year
contract which started in 2014. We have up to 46 residents with a
strong Medical Service offered and our own staff Doctor and Nurses on
duty 24/7 to meet the entire needs of the residents. Georgi and Ligia
are greatly supported on site by Social Assistant – Mioara Cuciula who
has worked with Smiles for more than 12 years.

 Adult Assisted Living Facility (Tileagd)
is the newest
initiative with the Smiles Foundation. Faced with higher than expected
demand for the residential services we offer, we were also presented
the need for support to those who did not qualify for ‘Elderly Care’.
Legally our Elderly Care Homes cannot admit people under 65 years of
age, but many people need residential care whilst much younger, many
suffering physical or mental challenges they cannot deal with living
alone or in many cases, even with family. We are therefore undertaking
a major renovation project in Tileagd at the Complex we built in 2005,
converting a former education wing into a Residential Assisted Living
facility. The home will have capacity for up to 36 residents and will
begin functioning, we hope, in the second half of 2017. |
