Report
for Cihei Elderly Centre
(February 2013)
Another year has
passed and we are happy to inform you
that for the
Cihei Elderly Centre, 2012 was a
good year. When we decided to transform the old Cihei Children
Centre into an Elderly Centre, we didn’t really know what to expect. We
didn’t have experience working with the elderly in a residential
capacity. Having our plan the Salonta JFL, we decided to get some
experience on a smaller level while we could. This was a very inspired
idea as we discovered later because there are a lot a people in need,
living alone or having families that don’t care for them.
At the
beginning at the year, because we had just opened, we weren’t working at
full capacity and I personally started to worry if the centre was such a
good idea.
At the beginning of the year
we were just 60 - 70% full. But after a few months, when people started
to know about us, we had more requests than we could accommodate. Now we
start to have a waiting list for the Elderly Centre in Cihei and Salonta.
We are very happy
to report, that at the moment, we have a full house and everyone is
doing well. The health of all of our residents improved after they
came to us and we have not had major issues that involved the hospital.
Also we are very careful, not just with the physical needs, but with
their emotions too. As some do not have any one to visit, so we are
encouraging other colleagues or local church people to come and spend
some time with them. We are doing all kinds of activities during the day
so they won’t f eel
down and get depressed. We also make sure we celebrate each birthday
and we put a group together that will take a cake and sing to them.
Our staff take
the job very seriously and take time to talk with them and ensure they
f eel loved and comfortable. Besides the basic needs that we cover daily,
we know the importance of the soul. So every week we have bible studies,
as their spiritual needs are important for us too. We have a few that
are not Christians yet and we pray for them as they see our love for
them to help understand the love of God.
We had to increase
the number of staff, because during the year the number of elderly
residents increased and with them the needs that we have to care for.
This put a lot of pressure on our budget but because we believe we are
doing God’s work we believe that He will provide us the financial
support that is so much needed. We don’t know always from where or how
it is coming, but it is coming every month. We don’t take it for
granted, we know is coming with great sacrifice and because of that, we
try to be as creative as we can, so we spend the minimum that we need
to.
I would like to
end my report with some prayer points:
-
For our elderly that are not Christians
yet, to get to know Jesus as their Saviour.
-
Health and strength for our staff, so
they can do their work .
-
Health and protection over our elderly
residents.
-
Financial support so we are able to
continue our work and pay the bills every month.
-
To be able to continue the construction
work in Salonta so as to finish the JFL Centre as soon as possible
so we can help as many people as possible.
Nobody should
ever have to live or die alone ..... please continue to partner with
us in this adventure we have begun.
In the name of those
that are blessed because of your support, I say to you all a big THANK
YOU. May God bless you and care for all your needs.
Many blessings,
Georgeta Opreanu
(Deputy Director of Smiles)
Project Director to Cihei Elderly Centre.
