Report from JFL :
Georgi Opreanu,
Director of JFL Elderly Care Home |
Celebrating
time!!!
May is already gone
and when we look back we can see how good God was with us in
protecting us and taking care of our needs.
This
month we had 2 new residents coming in and we pray for them to adapt
well in their new home. The new residents are a gentleman of 77 years
and a lady who is 83 years. She was before in the centre, but left
home at end of March, later in my report you can read her story.
As I told you in my
report last month – Phase II of JFL has started to be built and
I can’t believe the progress that is being made. I pray that God will
provide the money that is needed for completing the project so more
people can benefit from help that the Smiles Foundation will offer to
those that are in such big need. Please pray for this and partner with
us in raising the necessary funds.
We started the
month with celebrating the Elderly Project from Salonta, together with
the Mission Team from Ballymena in Northern Ireland. We had a
special day and everyone enjoyed it very much. We took all the tables
outside in the yard and we had a picnic with traditional Romanian
food. The
Ballymena team helped us a lot with preparing the food, serving and
singing. We want to thank them for all their help and support and may
God bless their effort. Because it was such a good day and the
residents enjoyed it so much, we are now looking for volunteers to come
and have another day like it soon!
This past month we
celebrated Valeria’s birthday. She is 72 years old and Ionel
who is now 80 years old, they are a couple that came last month in the
centre and have adapted very well.
We continue every Friday the
special program with the elderly when the pastor and other church
members come and spend time with them, worshipping God together,
studying the bible and able to share their experiences and concerns.
Mioara
– one of our full time social workers in
The Smiles Foundation and is part time for the Elderly Centre in
Salonta, got married this month with Cristi. Mioara is a real
blessing for all of us at JFL and God has blessed her with a Godly man
and we want to wish them a happy life together and God’s blessing to
be upon them.
Rebeca
–
who has been the part time social worker for Elderly Centre in Salonta
(as she was still a student) had the graduation celebration May 31st.
We are so thankful to God for her, because she is gifted in so many
ways and wants to put everything that God gave her into His ministry.
We look forward to the day when she will become a full time member of
staff. Until then we congratulate her and
wish her all the best for the final exams.
Now, as I promised,
I will tell you
Lady
Catalina story. She came for the
first time to the JFL centre in February this year. She adapted very
well, but her family decided to take her back home at the end of
March. They couldn’t afford to pay for her cost that was evaluated at
£300 per month. We didn’t consider her a social case as she has
family, but they didn’t tell us all the facts and problems they have.
After a month or so, the family called and told us that they struggle
caring for her and start to tell us their real situation. Lady
Catalina has two daughters that live in Oradea. One had several brain
surgeries and she can’t work anymore, she is on a low medical pension.
She is divorced and doesn’t have any help from others. The other
daughter is still working but the husband had a stroke and needs a lot
of attention and has big medical bills.
After
we reassess the case we agree that they will contribute to the cost
just with her pension which is £198 and the rest we will try to find
sponsors to cover the cost.
Lady Catalina,
even if she suffers Alzheimer and has the illness quite advanced, is a
very joyful person. We all love her here and we are very pleased she
came back. In this way, she will have the proper care and the
daughters will be able to take care of their personal needs and health
concerns.
I don’t want to
finish this report without mentioning that we manage to furnish all
the rooms at JFL and now, when we have a people in need, we can take
them without needing to wait for the rooms to be furnished. I want to
say a thank you to all the people than helped us financially so
we can have the entire centre furnished.
Love Georgi
