Celebrating care, love and
"Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look
back, everything is different..."
When I look back one year ago, two years ago, I realise how different
things are now.
In October 2013 we opened the "Doris" Elderly Centre in
Salonta and one year later we open the Elderly Centre in Oradea. So
many things have changed in the last two years and for those of you
that visit The Smiles Foundation during this period, you can confirm
that. For us sometimes
it feels like nothing changes but things, places
and people are changing.
I’ve look back to see how many people were cared and
loved by us in those two years at the "Doris" Centre in Salonta; it’s
a total of 47. In Oradea we open just a year ago and since then, 90
elderly have benefitted from our care, love and support.
Oradea, because we can provide medical care, we will have a lot of
people that will come straight from hospital at the doctor’s
recommendation but unfortunately for some, there is not much we can
do, except treat them with dignity in their last days.
At the moment in both centres we care for 68 residents.
But they are not just numbers to us, they are sweet people that bless
our life, some just for few weeks, some for longer but everyone takes
a part of our heart and when they go, we feel sorrow for their
families and friends. My desire and prayer is that for the time we
have them with us to give them the love they need and the care that
they won’t get in any other place.
October was a celebrating month, as we had the honour
of celebrating our residents birthdays: Felicia (64 years), Maria (84
years), Irina (86 years), Elisabeta (65 years), Moise (79 years),
Teodor (81 years), may
God bless their days with health and good
At the beginning of the month was the International Day
of Smile and in Oradea, to celebrate this day a foundation organised
an event – to create a Human Smiley Face. We decided to celebrate
another 500 people and we took 13 elderly from both
centres to take part in this event. We were the oldest participants to
the event and we showed the youth that
participated that you can smile even if you have wrinkles on your
face. It is not about
the age your body has but the age your soul is.
The organizer of the Human Smiley Face is a lady that has
a big heart for the people and doing
good to those around her. After the event she called
me to say that she wants, if I agree, to
bring two eye doctors from a private hospital to check the vision of
those that are in need. We were so blessed to have them and they check
20 residents and made some recommendation, but overall they were
pleased to see the care the elderly get.
Later in the month, together with Resonnance
Foundation from Switzerland,
we organised a Piano Concert for the elderly
at the Oradea centre. The residents that participated in the concert
enjoyed it so much, especially listening to the two children that were
performing. We hope to see them later in the year for a Christmas
are blessed every time when we have mission trippers coming to
the centres to spend time with the elderly, to sing to them, to
participate in activities and most of all to show them the love of
God. This past month we had several visitors in both centres and we
want to thank you all for everything that you did for our elderly and
I encourage you to came back, because possibly without realising, you
have a big impact on their lives.
A big thank you to those that came and worked on
phase two of JFL, cleaning, painting, moving soil, whatever was needed
you were ready to do. Thank you for this and my God bless you and
reward your efforts.
I left this subject to the end, not because it’s not
important, but because the court case that we had with the neighbour
for me was a big stress. God answered my prayers, our prayers and we WON,
because He promises us He will never leave us and never forget us.
It was a trial of our faith and I am so glad that
God found us faithful in what we are doing and in this case,
He showed us again that HE will be faithful to the END.
I don’t know what the following years will bring with
them, but one thing I know for sure: God knows…and that is enough for
me, it is all that I need to know.
My dear friends, thank you for all your prayers, for your
time invested in Romania and the Romanian people. For all the
financial support you give. Thank you for being partners with us in
serving God and His kingdom.
May God bless you, your families and dear ones with
everything that is good.
With great appreciation for all you do,
