United Kingdom Tour 2016 - Impressions

As many of you will know, a group of Smiles workers, as well as our CEO Kevin Hoy and our UK volunteer coordinator, Barbara Morrison, went on tour through the United Kingdom, in order to promote our activity in Romania and to update supporters with news from our projects. This was both challenging and exciting, as we have travelled hundreds of miles around UK and met hundreds of wonderful people who welcomed us so kindly! Their response to our presentations was very encouraging and motivating!

We had discussed about this tour for a while and when we announced it, the interest for it was a great confirmation that people are willing to know more about the great ministry that Smiles undertakes here in Romania. This time we decided to include several new locations in our itinerary and we were very inspired in doing so, as there were a lot of new people, as well as old friends and supporters who wanted to come and meet the Smiles team.

Touring the UK has been a great experience, as it always is. We started in Northern Ireland where there were two presentations, crossed the water to Scotland, continued to England and Wales for one day, then back to England then for the rest of the tour. We enjoyed greatly the beauty of green hills, trees and flowers, as well as discounted prices in the shops! The food was excellent, as usual. But most of all, we enjoyed getting to meet with friends, supporters and new comers. Every presentation was intended to inform about but also to introduce our projects, and Felicia’s testimony was a very welcome addition, as everybody could hear straight from a resident of our Elderly Care Home how much of a difference Smiles makes for so many people!

Of course, a lot can be said about this tour. Kevin, amazingly, drove more than 1,700 miles in these ten days, putting in a great effort, for which we say Thank you Sefu! Not that we could have helped him much, as driving in UK seems to me like reading Arabic (not really, but you know what I mean). The audience joined with us in praise and worship each evening, everybody was very interested in our updates and at the end hugs and kisses were not missing! All in all, an excellent time was had by all of us. The Smiles Tour 2016 was a success!

Here are some pictures for you to see, but the most important thing I want to say is that we appreciate very much the opportunity to come and meet directly with people. This was very important for us, as well as for those who are long-time friends and of course for those who heard about what we’re doing for the first time. One of the ladies that attended one of the presentations came to me afterwards to congratulate and to express her support for the wonderful work we do. She said: I’ve heard tonight about so many poor people you help in Romania. I’d like to come and visit one day, but even if I will not be able to do it, know that I will be praying for you every day. Isn’t that amazing? I was so impressed with this and I think many other people will have felt the same. Many expressed their intention to come on a Mission Trip, as a result of being challenged. Thank you for all of these encouragements!

Our tour was about how we can make a difference together in many people’s lives. And indeed we can! Please check the other reports on the tour also, as well as the information about our new challenge on finding committed "visionaries" on organising Events for Fundraising. This is a novel idea for raising support in order to keep the Smiles projects running and developing that might be of interest to you. Even if you couldn’t attend any of our presentations, information is available to you.

As always, feel free to write to me, I will be more than happy to answer your email as soon as possible. Or even sooner, remember?

God bless you and keep well! Thank you again to all our UK friends who were involved in making this tour possible and so successful! Many blessings to you and look forward seeing each other soon in Romania!
