Report from Georgi Opreanu,
Director of Elderly Care -
What a month September was!!! So many things were happening, but I
will just pick a few to report on.
In life, many times, unfortunately most
of the time, we take things and even people for granted! We forget how
blessed we are to have a roof over our head, a bowl of soup on our
table, a friend to help in need, legs to go where we want, eyes to see
the beauties of this world. We get to appreciate those things just
when we lose them!!
At the beginning of the month we had a big celebration in
our Elderly Care Home in Oradea. We celebrated the 104th
birthday anniversary of Lady Ileana. Together with her family we
had the vice mayor of Oradea and the Director of the Social Services
along with all the new friends she has made in her new home.
It was a very emotional moment and we heard the secret of
longevity: to do what you love all your life and be moderate in
everything you do. She also gave us some advice - to be hard-working
because then we will have everything we need.
Happy birthday, Lady Ileana, you are a blessing for us to know you!
On September 15th we start
a new adventure. We left Romania for the UK Tour, visiting 9
different cities in the United Kingdom. We did something similar a few
times before, but now
it was something
even more special. We took Lady Felicia with us.
She has lived for 3 years now in the Elderly Care Home in Salonta,
and unfortunately for few years ago
she lost her sight and
is now totally
blind. I asked her impression about this experience, these are her
"I am happy that I had the
chance to be part of the team on this tour. I have no regrets for
doing it. What I enjoyed most were the moments when I was encouraged
by the people in the church. I felt that I have a family in the UK. I
was also impressed by the friendship of the members of the team from
Romania. I laughed a lot on the journey.
challenge for me was to accept that I canít see all the beautiful
things around me, but I learned how to enjoy the little things. I
could hear the sound of the sea, the music and the good words that
everyone encouraged me with. I felt the beautiful smell of the grass
and flowers, and the good taste of hot chocolate, coffee and English
tea, and of course good cakes :) I felt
like a spoiled child. I was amazed by the bathrooms from UK, that they
have special ones for people with disabilities, so I didnít have too
I loved the weather, that we had
beautiful sunny days. For me it
was a great journey, a real blessing. I will never forget those
moments from the tour. I could stay another 10 days. Many thanks to
everyone for everything you are doing for me and my family here at the
Elderly Care Home in Salonta, we call JFL."
For me personally, this was a good lesson
about how to appreciate what I have more, but also a humbling
experience to see Lady Felicia how she enjoys life, even if she canít
see, she will be thankful for what she has and not complain about her
This tour was a great experience and was
so encouraging to see so many people being part of the work that we
are doing in Romania. God made possible another container full of
supplies to come to Romania, and we were so blessed to see it leaving
Ballymena. I donít have enough words to thank all those that
were involved in making this possible. God knows each and every one
and I am sure that His blessing will be upon them and their dear ones!
After such a busy month, we thought we need some
relaxation, so in both our Elderly homes we had the clowns from
World Wide Smiles. Both the elderly and the staff had a great time
and lots of laughter.
My dear friends, donít forget to
appreciate all the things and the people you have in your life,
because nothing is forever, we can lose it all any day.
Thank you everyone because, in one way or
another you are part of this great work that we are doing for the
people of Romania. Actually, because of you and your support Ė we can
continue doing the work each and every day!
