COP’s and Youth Work : –
Popular programs known in the UK as HBC (Holiday Bible Club) and in America as VBS (Vacation Bible School) provide the basis of Smiles outreach amongst children that we call COP’s (Children’s Outreach program). Planned during school holidays and particularly in rural villages, COP’s provides a wonderful opportunity to share the Gospel with kids in a relevant, exciting and interactive way. New to many rural communities which otherwise offers only traditional services for the children which is less attractive and appropriate.
The Smiles COP’s activities are also a big hit with our visiting Mission teams.
Children’s Outreach is a critically important aspect of the Outreach Pillar, with Adi Matis as Director. Smiles Children’s Outreach Work started way back in the summer of 2003, and since then we have shared the Gospel with hundreds of children across the county. Our aim is to teach the gospel very simply to children in villages where there is generally less appropriate programmes. We use puppets, drama, games, memory verses and competitions to share the message of Christ. We are always faced with the challenge of keeping the children’s attention, explaining why the bible is relevant to their lives, in challenging them, and never “watering down” the message of the gospel.
COP’s is an effective way to present the gospel during a short visit to a village; but after the programme is finished, it means leaving the children without discipleship. We recognise the need for continued work with the children and where possible we seek both partnerships with local churches and seek to return to areas where COP’s has ‘opened the door’ to continue sharing the truth through a variety of activities.
As you would imagine, covering travel costs, supplies and equipment is a constant pressure on limited financial resources. Smiles’ operates a strict ‘designated giving programme’ – so if you support the Children’s Outreach Programme, that is exactly where your money will go.
With your help, Smiles can make a huge impact in the lives of these children and the communities they live in. Thank you for your support.
The OUTREACH PILLAR and associated projects are under the leadership of Smiles Assistant Director – Adi Matis.
Working within Smiles since 2009, Adi has a heart dedicated to the Smiles ministry and has gathered great experience in dealing with the issues and demands of managing important aspects of people, logistics and finance.
Being Office Manager at the busy Cihei HQ also provides understanding to share the Vision that drives the Foundation forward day by day.
