Tileagd Assisted Living – Tileagd : –
One of the most serious challenges we found operating our two Facilities in Salonta and Oradea, was the limitation on who could benefit from the services. Being registered at ‘Elderly Care Homes’ meant no one under 65 years of age was allowed by law to become a resident. We were being faced with many distressing situations of people and families needing help with younger members, whether due to ‘early dementia’, stroke, amputation of limbs and other challenges that meant assistant with daily life was crucially important. When we decided in 2016 to transform part of the Tileagd Complex into Residential Care, we agreed to register as an Assisted Living Facility, which under Romanian Law, allows any adult over 18 years of age to be residential for Care purposes.
In July 2017, the new Tileagd Assisted Living facility was opened with up to 38 beds and has proved a life-line of support for many and the future is assured for this facility many call ‘home’.
How could The Smiles Foundation once again lead the way in providing a well documented needed service, without over-stretching our resources and supporters? After all, you – our supporters – provide all we need to do the great work in Romania we are so proud of. Your obedience to God through your giving and amazing generosity, is what makes the difference for us in doing our work.
We didn’t want to launch another £1million /$1.3 million project to build a new facility. We looked at that option to build on land we already owned in Cihei – but to build from scratch, as we found with JFL in Salonta – would be a huge pressure for the next few years. SO we thought harder. After a short time, we considered we have an amazing facility already built that was not being fully utilised and with some modification, could serve the proposed purpose.
Architects were consulted, Drawings prepared, and Construction men provided quotes. We concluded that for approximately £100,000 ($130,000) we could remodel part of our Tileagd Complex (built 2005-2008) accommodating the new Adult Assisted Living Facility and still be able to have all our other activities functioning in another part of the large Complex building. So, this is what we did and in January 2017, the work began.
Six months of hard work and extensive redevelopment had the job completed by June 30th, 2017. This was a miracle in itself. The budget had been set optimistically, and in reality we spent £120,000 ($156,000) for all the required changes along with equipping and furnishing the new facility.
But with that investment we had another wonderful facility for Residential Care to add to the Smiles portfolio. As planned, the new facility was ready to open on July 1st 2017.
The project provides ‘exactly what it says on the tin’ – Assisted Living (Support for Living) for all adults over 18 years of age who are in need of practical help with daily life.
We have nurses and carers on staff but not all our residents need ‘medical’ care as such, some just require continued support with well established medical issues.
Although the entire facility was ready July 1st, 2017 we intentionally received new residents gradually, so as to get more staff appointed and up to speed with the service we wanted to provide.
Tileagd Assisted Living is Managed by Ligia Cralic and assisted by Social Worker, Diana Caba.
Many new staff have been appointed and now the project cares for 38 residents, meaning the facility is about full (100%) all the time. Many residents can only contribute a portion of the monthly cost and the balance needs to be sponsored or raised from supporters.
It costs approximately £500 ($650) per month to support each resident. Some have virtually no income or means to support their care costs. If you can help Tileagd Assisted Living to share the Love of God in such a practical way, please do so today. Whether a one-off donation, a monthly sponsorship or a special fund-raiser – everything will make a huge difference to the care we can provide.
This project, and the people who will benefit from it, need your support.
The RESIDENTIAL PILLAR and our entire Facilities are overseen by the Smiles Executive Management team – Kevin, Maria, Adi and Simona
The rapid and substantial development of Smiles Residential Care since 2010, has created a significant project with an annual budget in excess of £650,000 / $845,000 so a team effort is required supported by a tremendously dedicated team of Managers and Social Assistants, in each facility all dedicated to the Smiles ministry. It all began with a small trial project with 8 Residents at our Cihei HQ. Eight, soon became eleven and the need for bigger and better facilities was obvious, so plans began!
