1 Corinthians 3:8-9
“The man who plants and the man who waters have purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his labour. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
I am starting to write this month in Cihei, here again with another great Team of Volunteers. I want to encourage and thank each of you who have been out to Romania this year on Mission. There has been a tremendous amount of work done in preparation for trips; prayer and thought as to how and where you might serve, as well as fundraising for projects.
On the field we have seen willing hearts and hands to ‘GO’ where God needs us, willingly assisting in the daily tasks alongside the Smiles Staff. Thank you for being on Mission, these weeks are life changing, so I encourage you to share your story with friends and churches, recruit for another trip and plan ahead to book for next year. It is getting busy already which is wonderful!
What a mind-blowing thought that we are considered as ‘God’s fellow workers’; that everything planted and watered has purpose. So whatever has been done, God will build it into His greater purpose, beyond and above what we may even imagine.
Smiles have never been limited by lack of vision, rather driven by the needs of people, with a passion to see new and renewed hope, determined to transform people’s lives from what seems like ‘hopeless end’, into ‘endless hope’.
What can we do as Volunteers to make more dreams come true?
We need funds! If you have the opportunity to organise a fundraiser before Christmas I will be delighted to hear from you, and help if I can. There are many Craft Fairs at this time; go Carol singing for Smiles, present where you can and share your stories. Just as we step out of our comfort zone on Mission, do it again at home! Please plan an event, which may change the world for someone.
I think this may be a good time to launch our annual Smiles Day which will be on Saturday 3rd February 2018. I invite you to plan your Fundraising Event around or on this date, work together, encourage each other, and let’s add some vitally important funds to the pot during this quieter time. Our Smiles Day 2017 raised a fantastic £7676.00 ($10,000) my challenge for 2018 is £13,000 ($17,000) which will fill the current monthly shortfall due to the value of the Pound Sterling on currency exchange in Romania. How amazing would that be?
Are you willing to take up the challenge as one of ‘God’s fellow workers’? It won’t be easy or just happen – we have to ‘make it happen’ by thinking, planning, praying and working. Then perhaps between us all we can raise this incredible target of £13,000 ($16,900)
Please contact me with your ideas, dreams and plans; we can make this into a very special Smiles Day!
It is equally important that you come to our UK Smiles Tour, bringing friends, neighbours and family. We are depending on you to fill the venues, and I invite you to make a special gift donation, so please think and plan for that even before you come. The team are working very hard to make each evening particularly special for you.
Seven are travelling from Romania, leaving home and families to share God’s Work with us in the UK. Please be there to encourage them and worship with us! Smiles Tour – Thankful Hearts
Prayer is essential for our upcoming 2017 Tours. Kevin will be flying to the USA to travel alone over 14,000 miles and needs to be steeped in prayer. And as the Romanians fly to the UK, Dawn and Luke will be driving over to Northern Ireland to meet me, where we begin travelling together in a Church Mini Bus. Every detail needs to be covered, so please join us in prayer as from today.
I recently had the loveliest letter from Lucy Linton (Omagh NI) who is 8 years old;
“I thought you would like to know that I did another car boot sale to raise money for The Smiles Foundation. I made £60 and I sent a cheque in this letter. Hope the boys, girls, ladies and men in Romania are happy. I really like trying to help them.”
Thank you Lucy, you are a star!
Our Ambassador Annette Charles from Worthing has written to encourage us;
Having recently returned from an uplifting Mission Trip with a wonderful large team, I decided that there was more work to be done and monies to be raised to help continue the work of Smiles.
A few years ago I organised a Fashion Show which proved to be very successful so I set about organising another one. Tickets sold very slowly at first, and I was beginning to wonder whether enough would be sold for the evening to go ahead. I need not have worried, because as always, God had it in hand with 86 tickets finally sold.
It was an absolutely amazing evening, people poured through the doors. We enjoyed the Show; then had an opportunity to try on and buy the clothes. A total of £350 ($455) was raised that evening, which for very little effort on my behalf; was a fantastic amount.
May I encourage everyone to step out in Faith and organise a Fundraising Event. It doesn’t matter how large or small your event is, it is why you are doing it that really matters. If you have been on a Mission Trip you will know and have seen, the difference every penny makes to the lives of the people that Smiles helps, so go on…. do it, plan that event that you have been meaning to do…. It really will change the life for someone.
I look forward to seeing many of you very soon, as we travel across the United Kingdom this month. It will be great to have a chance to talk face to face. Please keep up your continuing hard work. I am always available if there is anything you need help with.
Be encouraged again by these words; “For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.” What a privilege to serve God together.
