June, like all the months this year just flew by. We are now past the middle of the year and I don’t know about you, but I don’t know how it past so fast.
In January we started the huge project to renovate part of the Tileagd Complex into the new Assisted Living Facility and now we are here, opening it!
That being said, you can imagine June for us was a busy one. Together with Ligia and Geta we started the interviews for carers, nurses, cooks, cleaners, physiotherapists and so on. For all these jobs we had more than 40 CV’s (Resume) and our policy is to ask every person to come for an interview, because we can meet interesting people that don’t know how to “sell” themselves in a CV.
We are thankful to God for being with us in this process of appointing people and to give us wisdom in selecting the ones that will serve Him. Our biggest desire is that our employees can care for the people that will come to the centre with love and compassion, but unfortunately it is harder and harder to find these types of people, but we believe that God still has His servants and I hope and pray that we employed the right ones.
The activity at Tileagd Assisted Living (TAL) will start Monday, July 3rd with an induction day for the staff and then from Wednesday (5th) the first residents will come in. Ligia (TAL manager), Ioana (TAL social worker) and Dr. Diana started to evaluate the cases that asked for help, and we have around 15 inquiries but for the beginning we can’t care for more than 10. Our plan is to have the place fully functional before Christmas, but for that we need your help (please check out our wish list).
In order to be able to start in July we needed a lot of help, besides the people we contracted for different jobs, we had volunteers that came to help (Many different groups but included folk from UK and particularly the Wesley Foundation from Louisiana USA). In all the Smiles centres we like to create a homely feel and for that we paint the walls all different colours, and it’s now a tradition for John Chrystal to come and put professional colour in our lives 😉 Thank you John for always responding to our needs and for bringing brother Jim again, you are both very much appreciated and once again, without you we don’t know how we’d have finished.
Many of the staff in Smiles went the extra mile and left the comfort of their offices and came to help in cleaning, painting, assembling furniture, and so on. Thank you guys for all your help.
Special thanks to Kevin and Maria for all their involvement and we are aware that without their vision, passion and commitment all of this could not be possible. We pray for God’s blessing on each and every one that was involved.
We are now all very exalted about the great work God will do in the lives of those that will be cared for in TAL. We will keep you informed with the progress we made next month. Watch this space!
Meanwhile in the other centre the activities continue and at the moment we work at full capacity serving 89 elderly residents. I can tell you that it’s a lot of work, but we enjoy doing it, because we know that we can improve the quality of life for the elderly in our care at the same time as sharing with them God’s Love as His hands and feet.
This past month we took 20 of our elderly in Salonta in a very nice place in the forest. We had a great time, worshiping God, praying, hearing a word from the Bible, being encouraged by a group of American students, and of course having good food prepared there in the woods. God is so good to us and we just thank Him for allowing us to bring happiness into so many lives.
At JFL (Salonta) we continue the activity with Down Syndrome. In Salonta more and more people find out about our program and want to be a part of it. The Children from Down Syndrome Society in Oradea visited us this past month to help and encourage us in our work. They have a lot of experience and it’s good to see that we are appreciated by them in our small beginnings. They present also a very nice theatre play and the elderly enjoyed it so much and they were kind enough to come to ECO (Oradea) also. It is so good to see smiles on wrinkled faces, where so much of the time we see tears.
For all of you that contribute to what the Smiles miracle is, I pray God will bless you! Thank you and hope to see you all in Romania soon!
With much appreciation
Deputy Director of Smiles Romania
Please continue to pray for us to be able to bless the lives of the elderly that need our service.
For Gods winsome as we open Tileagd Assisted Living
For financial support to deal with all the challenges that came with the new salary
For wisdom in all the decision we need to take everyday
For loving and committed people who will work in our nursing homes
For the new resident to adapt in the centres;
For God’s protection upon all of Smiles staff and beneficiaries;
For sponsors for the social cases that we care for;
For all Smiles staff to be a testimony of God’s love so others will get to know HIM.
Please pray for us because when you pray God hears more than what you say, answers more that we ask, gives more than we can imagine in His own time and in His own way.
